In the history of economic philosophy, few essays and books specialize in Alfred Marshall's thought of human capital. The relevant research only generalizes some of its aspects on the basis of the introduction of his thoughts on economics. This dissertation tries to fill up this gap and analyzes Marshall's thought from a Marxist perspective. By unscrambling his essays and works, it summarizes his human capital thought, reveals its profundity and illuminates the core of his thought-the qualities of workers and entrepreneurs. Also this dissertation connects the human capital thought with education, family and society, studies the thought at macro and micro levels and probes into the features of this thought from a philosophical point of view based on the background of economy, politics and culture of Marshall's times.Firstly, this dissertation analyzes the pros and cons of human capital thought based on the research into human capital concept, its features and significance. Then it systematically studies the concept of the quality of workers and the entrepreneur theory. The research on the quality of workers surrounds the factors—school education, family environment and social environment—and how to improve their quality on that basis; the study of entrepreneur is based on the definition of entrepreneur, the qualities, functions and the formation of entrepreneurs. Finally the dissertation sums up the features and significance of Marshall's human capital thought based on the analysis of its standpoint, its view on human nature and its historical position that is taking over from the past and setting a new course for the future.
