Analysis Of Enterprise Technological Influence And Innovation Strategy Through Patent Citation

As the core of the product and process of technological innovation, patents are the unique source for discovering new technical information. Effective analysis of patent information plays a significant role in analysis of the competition status and the promotion of technical product development.Recently, traditional evaluating methods just gave consideration to statistical analysis of patents, which ignore the deeper technological relation. The behavior of patent citation can reflect the technological continuity. Based on the patent citation relation, the network models are established, which play a significant role in identifying the potential important enterprises and analyzing their technological innovation strategy.In this paper, the network models based on the patent citation relation are established to solve the problems blow:(1) Evaluation the technological influence power of enterprises in order to discover the important enterprises. Based on the patent citation information, a directed weighted enterprise citation network is established. Considering the account of citing enterprises, the influence of citing enterprises and the citation strength between them, a novel algorithm is provided to evaluate the technological influence power of enterprises and discover the important enterprises in the center of the network.(2) Analysis of the technological innovation strategy of the important enterprises. According to the patent citation information, a novel method is provided to evaluate the technological correlation; then, based on the technological correlation among patents, a patent network is established to analyze the technological coherence; based on the technological correlation among technology fields, a technology field network is established to analyze the technological diversity; at last, the technological innovation strategy of the important enterprises is analyzed from both the macro and micro level.(3) Experiments with such method have been done by using the patent dataset about fluid-pressure and analogous brake systems during the 25-year period from 1975 to 1999 from United States Patent and Trademark Office. The research plays a significant role in identifying the potential technological competitors and partners, seizing the direction of the technological development, increasing the efficiency of the technological innovation and winning the competition.
