Abstract/Summary:
Earnings management has always been a hot topic of accounting research. After the financial fraud scandal of Enron Corp. was exposed in 2001, earnings management received much more concern. How to control the earnings managemental behavior efficiently not only obsesses the monitor departments, but also is the constant object of researchers. Resently, the development of behavioral finance made up the deficiency of traditional economics. In the past, most studies related to earnings management based on external markets environment and internal corporate governance.The behavioral finance took managers'personal characters into earnings management studies. One of them was managerial overconfidence.This paper selected the research period according to the fluctuation of macroeconomics. It took Chinese listed companies of 2007 and 2008 as samples and compared the impact of managerial overconfidence on earnings management. Then it calculated the managerial overconfidence and earnings management, and analyse their relationship by regression model.The research achievements show that managerial overconfidence has significantly positive relationship with macroeconomical fluctuation and earnings management.
