Research On Circulation System In Dalian Central Districts

The basic elements required for human existence are food, clothing, shelter and transportation. Especially transportation, which is caused by the three others, would affect the quality of people's life and work directly or indirectly. In recent years, along with the accelerated process of urbanization and motorization, traffic congestion has become a serious problem during the country development. In order to solve this problem, a series of projects of new building roads and extensions and improvements to existing roads have been put into practice. Unfortunately, those projects not only haven't gained their expectations, but also cause a new desire to transportation. The atmosphere of traffic jam becomes more and more critical in urban area. It is necessary to find out a new way to cope with this problem. From the standpoint of integrate layout of urban streets and cognition of city image and taking Dalian central districts as a case study, this paper will draw upon specialized knowledge and skill in IE together with theories of way-finding, cognition, and ergonomics to optimize the urban circulation system in details, in order to guide the flow of people and vehicles properly.This paper includes five chapters.The first one is an introduction. It will make a statement of research contents, methods and frameworks in this paper through the awareness of traffic congestion and drawbacks of existing solutions in Dalian central districts.Chapter Two will review the research achievement of circulation routes from domestic and overseas to provide my study a theoretical reference, and the third one will make an introduction of Cognitive, the Image of the City, Way-finding, Ergonomics, and IE to provide theory basis.Chapter Four will make a study on the circulation system in Dalian central districts by focusing on the typologies of streets, the patterns of traffic flow in streets' junction, the design of traffic way-finding system and the image of Dalian central districts in order to support the urban circulation routes planning.The last Chapter will make out suggestions to circulation system in Dalian central districts based on the research results in the last four chapters.
