At present,the PMIA(Poly m-phenyleneisophthalamide) fiber has been achieved industrialization in our country.However,there are still few systemic and overall researchs and reports on its structures and properties until now,which causes a negative influence to the development of its overall production and restrict the application fields of the homemade PMIA fibers.The Newstar(?) fiber producted by Shangdong Yantan Spandex Corporation has been widely used in the field of filter material currently.However,the producers have hesitation to use the Newstar(?) fiber on the field of composite material and wearing fabric,dueing to few Newstar(?) fiber has been used on their fields.In order to supply theoretical foundation to the using of Newstar(?) fiber on other fields except filter material,the structure and property of Newstar(?) fiber compared with the PMIA fibers made in foreign countries were systemic researched by modern testing means.This paper mainly includes several parts as follows:Firstly,the morphology,molecular and aggregation structures of the Newstar(?) fiber were researched by using the modern testing methods,such as the scanning electron microscopy(SEM),the wide angle X-ray diffraction(WXRD),FTIR spectroscopy.It was show that Newstar(?) fiber’s basic structural parameters were similar to those of the PMIA fiber made in foreign countries from the results,but it still had some differences among them.For examples,compareing with the PMIA fiber made in foreign countries,the Newstar fiber was slightly higher of its crystallinity and orientation degree which respectively was 43.88%and 82.1%,and its surface morphotogical structure was worst because there were most of spots and crackles on its surface among the three PMIA fibers.Secondly,the mechanical and heat resistance properties of the Newstar(?) fiber were researched and analyzed.It is indicated that compared with the PMIA fibers made in foreign countries,the rupture strength of Newstar fiber was higher,and the elongation at break and initial modulus was lower from the results.And the heat resistance property of Newstar(?) fiber was worse than those of the other two PMIA fibers especially when the temperature is beyond of 300℃,the conservation rate of strength and elongation of Newstar(?) fiber was lower than those of Nomex(?) fiber and Conex(?) fiber at the temperature.Thirdly,the heat resistance property of the Newstar(?) yarns and the yarns that have been steeped by resin were also profound researched in this paper.As the temperature increase,the tensile property variation tendency of the Newstar(?) yarn is similar to those of PMIA yarns made in foreign countries with the same fineness and twist.The same situation also occurred in the the PMIA yarns which were steeped by resin.That means tensile property of the Newstar(?) yarn and the yarn treated by resin were similar to those of Nomex(?) and Conex(?) yarns at the high-temperature.A synthetic evaluation of the properties of the 3 kinds of PMIA fibers were conducted by means of gray clustering analysis.It indicated that combination property of Newstar(?) fiber was similar to those of Nomex(?) and Conex(?) fibers.At last,the properties of aramid bafflecloth made of the Newstar(?) fiber were researched,and a comparative assessment has been builded among the aramid baffleclothes made by Newstar(?),Nomex(?) and Conex(?).The results show that the properties of the aramid bafflecloth made by Newstar(?) were approximately equivalent to those of the aramid baffleclothes made by Nomex(?) fiber or Conex(?) fiber.
