With the development of modern technology and full-scale exploitation of land and offshore oil, the proportion of water, salt, sand and other impurities in the oil production rises gradually. To treat the oil production economically and efficiently and get purified crude oil from the oil well products becomes a common problem all around the world. To develop a high efficient and low-cost oil and water separating equipment to replace low efficiency, large volume and high power consumption has great significance to oil production.On analysis of current oil-water separation methods, advantages and disadvantages of various internal separation element combinations are introduced in this, all these can provide supportions to the optimium designation. With the aids of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) methods, the numerical simulation software FLUENT is applied to stimulate the separation effect, and the difference between three-phase separator with coalescence board and TP board and the traditonal separater are also performed in this paper. By doing these, the inner components of the separator are optimized, and then test and verification is accomplished in the oil field. The result shows that the liquid droplet whose diameter is greater than10um can be separated from natural gas producted from the well, and the total moisture content in natural gas can also be strictly controled when combination device is arranged in the separater. It can be found that the final separation efficiency can meet the requirement of the customer by the optimization of the separator structure, and it makes the domestic separator keeps ahead in international competition both in price and technological performance. All these make a certain foundation for the establishment of international market of the high efficient three phase separator.
