Recently, conjugated organic molecules in the solid states exhibited excellentfluorescence properties and is widely used in the development of optical fluorescentmaterials. In this paper, we constructed a series of conjugated organic molecules withanthracene-centered, and their piezofluorochromic behaviors, aggregation inducedluminescence and ion sensing properties are studied. These molecules can be used for newphotoelectric materials, which are extremely rich in originality and innovative withimportant research significance and application value. We synthesized series of dibutylaniline-and/or pyridine-containing2,6,9,10-tetrarylvinylanthracene cruciforms with good solution ability. The results show that thecruciforms show stronger intermolecular charge transfer and spatially separated frontiermolecular orbital (FMO) features and coordination-induced FMO changes. Fluorescenceresponses of these cruciforms to select several metal ions are also different, which could bepromising functional scaffolds selectively for differential transition metal sensor arrays. To further understand the effect of alkyl lengths on the solid-state fluorescence andpiezochromic luminescence, a series of alkyl-containing compound FCn was obtainedthrough tuning N-alkyl length of2,6-bis(p-dialkylaminostyryl)9,10-distyrylanthracene(cruciform6). The results show that they all represent aggregation-enhanced fluorescenceand piezofluorochromic (PFC) behaviors, even have strong dependent on the alkyl length. The fluorescence emissions of pristine FCn are red-shifted and are more remarkable withthe increase of alkyl length. Furthermore, longer alkyl-containing FCn show largerpiezofluorochromism (PFC) spectral shifts, and increasing the N-alkyl length couldeffectively decrease the cold-crystallization temperature of the ground states to render thePFC states with a tunable heat-recovering temperature. It is found that ground FC10andFC12solids can recover spontaneously to their original states at room temperature, whichshould be promising material systems for the investigation of structure—propertyrelationships and various potential applications.
