The basic unit of graphite materials is the graphene. Graphene is a honeycomb-like sheet ofcarbon with a number of unique physical properties. Given these major properties, graphene will bewidely applied in new electronic and optoelectronic devices. The discovery of graphene causes thetide of research around the world. Until now, scientists have struggled to synthesize higher quality,larger area graphene through changing the experimental conditions.In order to further research into the preparation of graphite materials, this thesis try to usecopper nitride film which has fantastic photoelectric properties as substrate to synthesize carbonmaterials. Here, these carbon materials are prepared by chemical vapor deposition with ethanol ascarbon source. Since copper nitride easily decomposes into copper and nitrogen under lowtemperature, we also use copper film substrate as the contrast group to synthesize carbon materials.The research works in this thesis are largely focused upon the following two aspects: oneaspect is whether the carbon material can be synthesized on copper nitride substrate at lowtemperatures and what is the structure of this carbon material. The other aspect is that whether thecarbon material can be synthesized both on copper nitride and copper substrate at high temperaturesand what is the difference between the two substrates.We finally get some encouraging experimental results: the carbon materials are successfullygrown on copper nitride substrate at low temperature. On one hand, this result provides a newmethod to synthesis of graphite materials at low temperatures. On the other hand, a new type ofcopper-nitride/carbon composite material is proposed by combining the copper nitride and carbon.This new composite material may play an important role in the future electronic and optoelectronicdevices. It is hard to find the high quality graphite grow on copper nitride substrate at hightemperature, but we obtain high quality nanotube, carbon canister and carbon nano chain on coppersubstrate at high temperature.
