Uranium tailing is constantly inevitable outcome of the exploitation andutilization of uranium resources in our country.Because people lack of knowledge onenvironmental hazards of uranium tailings and uranium waste.Low-grade ore whichproduced during the uranium mining and production processes is loosely disorderstacked, and stack in the shape of mountain, flat, slope and so on. Most of the wasteproduced by the uranium ore located in the mountains piles up on the hillside, forminga potential higher artificial slope. These uranium tailings slope, could easily lead todisaster risks. Meanwhile, the earthquakes, natural rainfall, volcanic eruptions inducedgeological disasters such as collapse, landslides and debris flows can make the tailingswere severely damaged. At present, there are many uranium mines in Sichuan, distribution in thesouthwest, north, east and westnorth of Sichuan. Where uranium mining field innorthwest of Sichuan as an important national base for uranium mining resources hasabundant uranium resources. In its mining pit uranium tailings are deposited in thevicinity of the open pit.Uranium tailings as a major hazard, once the dam failureoccurs,it will cause enormous losses of lives and property and restrict the rapiddevelopment of the national economy in some extent. In this paper, uranium tailingswere monitored by use of three-dimensional laser monitoring technology.Paper studies shows that with use of three-dimensional laser scanner can get "face"three-dimensional point cloud data with high precision and high-density.Also we willget its relevant characteristics to accurately reflect real-time changes in the targetrange over the entire surface of the uranium tailings. By studying this project canmake the following conclusions:(1) The technology used in the project, methods, equipment, safety and stabilityof the tailings able to perform accurate quantitative analysis and calculation.(2) The method can provide a comprehensive, detailed and convincing data foruranium tailings safety assessment and monitoring.(3) For the deformation and displacement measurement accuracy tailings canreach1cm or less,it is able to make slight defo rmation and displacement ofdiscrimination.(4) According to the different requirements of various mining area andenvironment of the tailings with different parameters for analysis of the data, so as toadapt to the different conditions of stability evaluation of tailings in different safetyrequirements.Preliminary paper on the application of3D laser scanning technology in uraniumtailings monitoring done a study and look forward to further the practical application of the technology, as well as we need to further improve and enhance at the followingpoints(1) Tailings surface vegetation has a great influence on accuracy formeasurement and deformation analysis, therefore,we should consider a variety ofmethods reducing vegetation coverage when measuring, such as weeding in measureor before the measurement in autumn and winter season(2) To ensure the high precision of deformation and displacement analysisresults, the measurement should guarantee the measurement error is less than1cm, soneed to adopt high precision of3d laser scanner and total station for homework, andassignments should be strictly carried out in accordance with the operation regulationof3d laser scanning operation.(3) In the next step of work,we should take more tailings monitoring scanningdata acquisition and analysis on the basis of research on3d laser scanning technologyapplication method of the tailings, requirements and specifications, and based onsufficient data to formulate the tailings standard of3d laser scanning, fill the lack of3d laser scanning technology in our country at present the standard blank.(4) In the next step of the tailings monitoring work should study investigated thethree-dimensional laser scanning technology and sensor technology, networkingtechnology and geophysical technology, to achieve security and stability of tailingscomprehensive, timely and accurate monitoring.
