With the development of manufacturing industry and the innovation of all kinds ofprocessing technology, the requirement on the material properties is improving. Nearly thirtyyears, magnetization technology to improve the material properties has become the focus ofpeople, so the rules and mechanism of magnetic treatment has become a hot topic for scholars.Trend to the hot topic, in this paper, influence of magnetizing treatment on high speed steelwas studied.The waste of small power motor was converted into a magnetizing device as recyclinguse, with the change of performance of the tool which was magnetized, this paper expressedgreen magnetization treatment technology.By this device, the affect of the magnetizationprocess on the high speed steel about the wear resistance and hardness was explored betweenmagnetized and unmagnetized ones.Then by changing the magnetic treatment parameters westudy on the high speed steel with the performance change after the magnetization treatmentand explore the influence of magnetization treatment of YG8hard alloy.The hardness test show that magnetization treatment can improve the hardness of high speedsteel cutter, with the increase of the magnetization time, high-speed steel tool hardness graduallyincreases under the same electromagnetic frequency,the optimum magnetization time was45S,increased more time hardness is not obvious.In the same magnetization time,the hardnessincrement speed steel cutter becomes low with the increase magnetization current frequency, so thelow frequency magnetic effect is better. But the magnetization treatment does not improve theYG8hardness.We explore the mechanism and effect of magnetic treatment on wear resistance of high speedsteel cutter through the wear experiment,and research the effects of magnetic treatment of highspeed steel cutting quality.We find that the wear rate and the coefficient of friction decreased whenthe the high speed steel tool was magnetized.We also find that the best magnetic frequency is2Hz.The Surface roughness of the specimens is lower when we use the magnetized high speedsteeltool.The wear surface morphology was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), thewear surface elements were analyzed using energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The resultsindicated that the wear loss and friction coefficient of HSS magnetized were decreased comparedwith that of the HSS without magnetizing, but there were the considerable effect of the different magnetizing parameters on the wear resistance of HSS, in which the best resistance of the HSSappeared at the magnetization parameters being2Hz and45s. SEM analysis of the wear surface atHSS magnetized shown that the adhesion wear of HSS could be reduced by magnetization, and animportant reason on the good resistance was the adsorption on wear debris by magnetic field. EDSanalysis shown that the oxidation wear of HSS was improved by magnetization, in which the wearresistance of the HSS was improved by magnetization but there was the different effect on theresistanceatthedifferent magnetizingparameters.
