With the development of society, especially the development of aerospace, military weapons, communication and biomedical technology, people have a high demand for micro parts in the aspect of function, accuracy, reliability. Micro cutting technology is an advanced manufacturing technology with processing efficiency and product quality, having the characteristic of a single technology limit, the conventional technology breakthrough and high-tech integrated. Using the micro cutting technology can process arbitrary shape of micro3D parts in a variety of material, which can satisfy several of social requirements in micro miniature parts. Now it has been one research hot and priorities.In micro cutting technologies, micro milling is one of the widely used technologies, has become a promising direction for its high efficiency and high flexibility. But the surface quality of micro milling is relatively poor, the result is not ideal. Micro grinding can solve the problem, but its processing efficiency is not high. Therefore, this paper puts forward a new micro process, whose name is micro milling-grinding. Compared to micro milling, it can improve the surface quality. Compared to micro grinding, it can improve the machining efficiency.In this paper, micro milling-grinding mainly carries on the discussion from the following aspects.(l)Through the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of micro milling and micro grinding technologies, it raises the micro milling-grinding process. It researches on the basic principles of micro milling-grinding and the influence of micro grain to the cutting edge in minimum cutting thickness.(2)Using the finite element simulation, it ha built the two-dimensional orthogonal cutting finite element model and the finite element simulation model of micro milling-grinding in on single blade and single grain. It studies on minimum cutting thickness, including2D orthogonal cutting, the micro grain, and the influence of micro grain to the cutting edge in minimum cutting thickness., respectively using the theory of, discusses the distribution of force, temperature, stress in micro milling-grinding chip forming process and finally analyses patterns of cutting force and maximum temperature in the temperature field in different grain radius, cutting blade radius, cutting depth and speed.(3) Contrast several super-hard grain coating methods, this paper finally adopts electroplating diamond in micro milling cutter to achieve micro milling-grinding cutter, it has advantages of low cost, mature manufacturing process, the high density of grains, grinding efficiency.(4) Contrast test on micro milling and micro milling-grinding, it draws the corresponding curve; Contrast test on two different processing methods for the surface quality, it achieves micro milling and micro milling-grinding reasonable processing modes; it also analyses wear of micro milling cutter and micro milling-grinding cutter. Through the experimental results, it studies the feasibility of micro milling-grinding process.(5)Conclusions are drawn in this paper and ome research directions for future are provided.
