| Carbon black is the most commonly used filler in the rubber industry, the structure and properties of carbon black have great inffect on the performance of carbon black/rubber composites. The partical sizes of thermal black N990used in present paper is about200nm-500nm, due to low reactivity and structure, N990has low reinforecement for rubber. In present paper, in order to remove the amorphous regions of carbon black particals, form hollow concentric shell structure stacked by graphite crystallites, calcine the carbon black N990at high temperture firstly. Oxided the calcined carbon black by HNO3reflux and Hummers. Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM)ã€scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) to observe the microstructure and morphology of oxidative carbon black, using X-ray diffraction to characterize the crystal structure of oxidative carbon black, using Raman spectroscopy to characterize the degree of order of oxidative carbon black, using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to characterize the kinds and relative contents of surface chemical groups and the element relative contents of oxidative carbon black.The results showed that a mount of oxygen-containing groups have been introduced on the surface of the calcined carbon black by HNO3reflux, improve the reactivity of carbon black. At the same time, the crystal structure of carbon black has been changed by oxidatition, the layer spacing of graphite microcrystalline on carbon black surface increases, the graphite microcrystalline has been exfoliated from carbon black, the thickness of the carbon black graphite microcrystalline sheets is about lOnm. Amounts of oxygen-containing groups have also been introduced on the surface of the calcined carbon black by Hummers, the reactivity of carbon black has been improved, at the same time, the nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of carbon black has been increased, when the degree of oxidation decrease, the nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of carbon black increase. The graphite microcrystalline on carbon black can also been exfoliated from carbon black by Hummers, the thickness of graphite microcrystalline sheets of carbon black is about4nm. |
