The appearance wrinkles of fabrics after domestic tumble laundering not only destroy the fabric appearance beauty, but also speed up the damage of fabric inner properties. The smoothness appearance is a composite index to measure the appearance wrinkling after washing and drying. Textile quality control and trade has listed it as an important test index. While the researches about the wrinkling mechanism and factors of woven fabrics are very limited. So research on the wrinkling mechanism of woven fabric during domestic tumble laundering will support scientifically basis for woven fabric care.Experiments were carried out with twenty-one kinds of woven fabrics including woven cotton fabrics, woven linen fabrics and woven polyester fabrics with white color and ordinary finishing on the basis of their thickness. And measure physical mechanical indexes, structure parameters and wrinkle recovery angle of the samples after prewashing. Then smoothness appearance of the samples was evaluated after washed in standard procedures of domestic tumble washer for research on the relationship between physical properties and smoothness appearance of fabrics and the correlation of wrinkle recovery angle and smoothness appearance of woven fabrics. Then, cotton-type woven fabrics were chosen and design orthogonal experiments and single-factor experiment of washing time, washing temperature, water, duty cycles and dewatering speed were designed to study on the relationship between tumble washing parameters and smoothness appearance of fabrics.Researching on the relationship between physical parameters and smoothness appearance of fabrics can get some conclusions as followings. Firstly, the physical properties of woven cotton fabrics influenced smoothness appearance after domestic tumble laundering significantly. And for physical mechanical properties of woven cotton fabrics, the five indexes including warp bending rigidity (BJ), weft bending rigidity (Bw), warp shear rigidity (GJ), weft shear rigidity (Gw) and warp tensile energy (WT) were significant positive correlation with smoothness appearance and they belonged to one common factor named "fabric ability to resist deformation". Among them, bending rigidity was chosen as the principle factor and the regression equation between bending stiffness and smoothness appearance was Y=e(3.643-0.011/X))(R2=0.960). When warp bending rigidity reached to0.03N.cm2/cm or even higher, the smoothness appearance increases gently. For structure parameters of woven cotton fabrics, thickness and weight were significant positive correlation with smoothness appearance. The regression equation between thickness and smoothness appearance was Y=4.585-0.668X-1(R2=0.906) and the regression equation between weight and smoothness appearance was Y=4.158-188.673X-1(R2=0.971), while the trend of these two equations were consistent with the equation of warp bending. Secondly, the relationship between physical parameters and smoothness appearance of linen fabrics and polyester fabrics were not significant. Thirdly, wrinkle recovery angle was not correlated with smoothness appearance.Researching on the relationship between tumble washing parameters and smoothness appearance of fabrics can get some conclusions as followings. Firstly, the washing temperature was the most significant factor followed by dehydration speed or dehydration time. And along with the increasing of polyester fiber content (the decreasing of cotton fiber content), the influencing degree of washing temperature increased (the influencing degree of dehydration speed or dehydration time decreased). Secondly, along with the increasing of washing temperature, the biggest decreasing scope of the cellulose fiber fabrics in smoothness appearance was1.8degree and the pure polyester fabric was3.8degree. And for temperature increasing and smoothness appearance decreasing, yarn buckling rate increasing and bucking frequently, the shear stiffness and bending stiffness reduced significantly. Thirdly, the moisture contents of fabrics after dewatered in30s and2min were consistent. While the biggest decreasing scope of the cellulose fiber fabrics in smoothness appearance was1.0degree and the pure polyester fabric was0.5degree and the shear stiffness and bending stiffness reduced significantly.
