In recent years,3D woven composites are developing quickly. As one new kind of3Dwoven composites,3D fabric sandwich composites are greatly welcomed by the researchers.There are many different kinds of structures of this material. The composites not only haveexcellent mechanical properties, but also have good designability.3D fabric sandwichcomposites are widely used in various fields including building, transportation, aerospace andmilitary. And the preparation and mechanical properties of the composites are mainly studiedby the composite industry at home and abroad.In this paper, the weave rules and the arrangement structure of warps and wefts of fabricwere confirmed by analyzing the structure. Warp cross section and lifting plan of3Dsandwich fabric were drawn. The structure design of3D sandwich fabric was finished. Glassfibers were used as as raw materials and plain weave was chosen to be the weave rules offace-sheet and core of3D sandwich fabric. Warping creel was chosen to be the let-off motion,straight draft was chosen to be the drafting method, a dent with a warp was chosen to be thedenting method and the fabric was woven on the automatic rapier loom (SGA598). Thepreparation of3D sandwich fabric was finished. Epoxy resin (E-51) was chosen to be theresin of the resin matrix, polyether amine (H023) was chosen to be the hardener of the resinmatrix,2:1was chosen to be the ratio of resin matrix and hand lay-up was chosen to be thecompound technology. The preparation of3D fabric sandwich composite was finished. Thecompression and flexure properties of composites were performed on universal testingmachine (Instron3385H). The effect of structure parameters on mechanical properties wasstudied. The research on mechanical properties of3D fabric sandwich composites wasfinished.In this paper, the compression behavior of3D fabric sandwich composites wascharacterized by compressive tests and the flexure behavior of3D fabric sandwich compositeswas characterized by flexural tests. The results show that the compressive strength andelasticity modulus of3D fabric sandwich composites decrease with the increase of core height.The compressive strength and elasticity modulus of3D fabric sandwich composites decreasewith the increase of core distance. The compressive strength of3D fabric sandwichcomposites reach to the maximum when the ratio of resin matrix is3:1and the elasticitymodulus increase with the decrease of polyether amine. The flexural strength of3D fabricsandwich composites increase with the increase of core height, while the elasticity modulusdecrease. The flexural strength and elasticity modulus of3D fabric sandwich compositesdecrease with the increase of core distance. The flexural strength of3D fabric sandwichcomposites reach to the maximum when the ratio of resin matrix is3:1and the elasticitymodulus increase with the decrease of polyether amine.
