The color of crude oil and fuel oil, viscosity and other properties are very similar, so they can’t be simplied according to appearance, but there is certain difference in its chemical composition, that can distinguish crude oil and refined products in the environment.Petroleum generally has organic compounds generate from specific geological environment (pressure, temperature and composition, etc.).While some of these compounds are often not changed with the later changes (petrochemical industry, natural weathering, dispersants to interference, etc.) or the change is small, it has strong chemical stability.Conventional analysis methods such as gas chromatography (GC) or chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) can be qualitative or quantitative detection of these compounds, after that,we used carbon stable isotope analysis to analyze the particular target compounds at the atomic level.GC-MS and carbon stable isotope analysis showed that the distribution of the normal alkanes in the crude oil was probably between C8~C20, and hydrocarbon distribution is between C8~C18in the light fuel. The types of hydrocarbon in heavy fuel oil and crude oil is roughly the same, and it is difficult to distinguish; the carbon stable isotope values of C17, and C18in Crude oil (kwt, ylk, agl, wnrl) is between-32‰~-30‰, and light oil’s (0#,10#,35#) is relatively low to-34‰~32‰,the heavy oil(180#and380#) is-30‰~28‰.For the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons component analysis, the light fuel oil’s (0#,10#,35#) carbon stable isotope values are between-32‰~-30‰, and heavy fuel oil’s carbon stable isotope values are around-26per thousand, the crude oil’s carbon stable isotope is between them;At last, it was certain that the characteristic compounds in crude oil and fuel oil samples of carbon stable isotope values were basically unchanged by the weathering test for half a month. Through the results above, the fingerprint information of crude oil and fuel oil carbon stable isotope is different that can be used for further differentiating of them.
