Select toluene and ethyl acetate behalf as VOCs in this article, then got themodified activated carbon by supported the mass concentration of2.0%,1.5%,1.0%,0.5%of Cu salt solution and Mn salt solution and was calcined at300,350,400and500. Characterized the surface area and iodine value of the Modificationactivated carbon than to elect the better modified activated carbon, Take toquantitative analysis of adsorption of toluene gas, ethyl acetate gases and gas mixturesof both penetration test, respectively. The results were as follows:The specific surface area of activated carbon is less than the unmodificatedactivated carbon which loaded the copper acetate, potassium permanganate,and wascalcined at300,400and500,and the specific surface area of modificatedactivated carbon is the largest which was calcined at350. As the activationtemperature is not enough because of the temperature is low,so the activated carbonwas not fully calcined and activated and the bore was clogged by loaded the metal salt;While in400,500, due to the high calcination temperature causes the microporewall collapse within the activated carbon,resulting in the specific surface areadecreased after calcined. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon is affected withthe specific surface area, total pore volume, and the metal atoms loading on thecarbon. The iodine value of modified activated carbon by loaded Cu in the calcinationtemperature of350,400were increased when compared to the activated carbonas and the iodine value is the maximum at350. This is because the activated carbonwas activated more completely at350, so that the iodine value is the maximum,When the calcination temperature was400, although the specific surface area ofactivated carbon is reduced due to pore collapse, But there may be complexation of a load of metal Cu and adsorption qualitative on activated carbon made iodine valueincreases. The iodine value of Mn-modified activated carbon has increased comparedwith the intact only when the calcination temperature was350, were decreased ascompared with the other temperature conditions. Because the activated carbonactivated incomplete at300and was blocked by potassium channels loading onactivated carbon reduced the adsorption properties of activated carbon. Activatedcarbon pore walls collapsed at400500,and the oxidizing of potassiumpermanganate is strong so the activated carbon was oxidized, and destroyed the porestructure of activated carbon, resulting in lower adsorption properties.Adsorping a single component VOC, When the calcination temperature is350,the best adsorption performance activated carbon when impregnated copper acetatewith concentration of1.5%or impregnated potassium permanganate withconcentration of1.0%. When a certain concentration while dipping(the concentrationof copper acetate is1.5%, the concentration of potassium permanganate is1.5%), theadsorption properties of activated carbon modified by Cu enhanced with calcinationtemperature, the adsorption properties reaches to the best level when the calcinationtemperature is350. The adsorption properties of modified activated carbon byloaded Mn is strongest only calcination temperature is at350. When impregnatedwith the copper acetate concentration was1.5%and the calcination temperature is350, the breakthrough time of toluene and ethyl acetate were13.6min and8.3min,compared with unmodified activated carbon delayed19.3%,18.6%,respectively; Thesaturated adsorption amount was264mg/g,149mg/g, compared with unmodifiedactivated carbon increased29.7%,21.3%, respectively; And when it was used toadsorpt the mixed gas of toluene and ethyl acetate, the saturated adsorption amount oftoluene and ethyl acetate were155mg/g and46mg/g,increased19.4%、33.0%,respectively. When the impregnated concentration of potassium permanganate was1.0%and the calcination temperature is350, the breakthrough time of toluene andethyl acetate were13.2min and8.1min, compared with unmodified activated carbondelayed15.8%、15.7%,respectively; The saturated adsorption amount was230mg/g、143mg/g, increased12.7%、16.3%; And when it was used to adsorpt the mixed gas oftoluene and ethyl acetate, the saturated adsorption amount of toluene and ethyl acetate were147mg/g and43mg/g, increased13.1%、22.9%,respectively.The analysis of BET, SEM, FTIR and XRD indicates that the surface area and totalpore volum increases of activated carbon modified by copper,or modified by Mn at350is the main reason.And complexation of copper and VOC further enhances theadsorption properties of activated carbon.
