With the rapid improvement in computer technology and increased designexperience in enterprises, designers want to apply achieved design experienceto software, aimed to assist injection mold design and realizeintellectualization and automatization. However, there are plenty of actualproblems in achieving that goal. For example, how to determine the partingdirection of injection molding, how to design high-quality parting surfacerapidly and how to increase the reuse of resources. In order to solve theseproblems, this paper mainly studies the following contents:The oriented bounding box algorithm and the smallest enclosing cylinderalgorithm are studied. Oriented bounding box can be used to assist ininjection molding design and quickly determining the parting direction. Inaddition, this algorithm also could be used in the calculation of the blankdimension, the interference checking and collision detection, product layoutand packaging design. This paper proposes an efficient oriented boundingbox algorithm, which is different from traditional iteration method. Rotatingthe outer contour the model in the main projection plane rather than themodel greatly improves the efficiency of this algorithm. To further improvethe algorithm efficiency, this paper pre-processes the model to find the maindirection which is used to be the initial iteration direction. This paper studiesthe smallest enclosing cylinder based on rotating cylinder and researches therotation range of the smallest enclosing cylinder. This algorithm can also be applied to getting the minimum surface area cylinder, minimum diametercylinder etc..The mixed curves offset algorithm is researched for the parting surface.The traditional design method of the parting surface is obtained bysegmenting the parting line into several parts and sweeping along the partingline. This method is low efficient and can’t guarantee the quality of theparting surface. This paper gets the parting surface with the help of theparting line and its offset curve. The parting line is complex, so its offsetcurve may has lots of problems, such as self-intersection, overlapping,fracture etc.. This paper presents an offset algorithm based on error feedback.The algorithm can trim self-intersection by checking the curvatures ofsampling points. Bézier curve is used to make sure theC1/G1continuous ofthe offset curve.For mold design, most parts can be made into standard parts in addition tothe core and cavity. This paper studies a kind of standard parts library whichcan be used to almost all of CAD platform and network environment. Thestandard parts library is based on the ACIS platform. It can be used in otherCAD platforms with the help of PHL V5and InterOP components. Thestandard parts library contains a friendly user interface, unified datamanagement, customer additional processing and3D model preview andother functions. Through the practical application of production test, thestandard parts library can greatly improve the design efficiency and reducethe mistakes.Finally, all the achievements are applied to the injection mold design toprove the feasibility and effectiveness of the researches.
