Abstract:In an effort to lower energy consumption in steel production, lightweight castable is used in ladle permanent layer. Aiming at the deficiency in the ladle behavior investigation, based on the principle of combining theory and engineering, work and related conclusion done are as follows.1) Alumina hollow ball, shale ceramsite were used as aggregate to allocatie two kind of lightweight castable. Experimental study was done to investigate the influent of aggregate gradation on properties especially thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity of them are less than0.60W/(M-K) and0.22W/(M-K). As they can be used as a ladle permanet layer, and play a certain effect of insulation. In addition, results show that the thermal conductivity increases with large particle proportion, and the thermal conductivity and the flexural strength was positively related.2) Based on a90t ladle without refining, an unsteady heat transfer toasting model was established. Results show that found that the use of lightweight castable lower the outer wall temperature by74K and77K in contrast with the ladle with alumina magnesia castable. Lightweight castable delayed heat transfer in ladle lining. Toasting mechanism must be improved as to reduce the heat shock and heat loss.3) Steel ladle models with different thickness of lightweight castable were established to investigate heat behavior in ladle. The results showed that, lightweight castable lower temperature decrease of steel in ladle. The energy saving per ton steel was converted into standard coal as0.256kg and0.410kg. In addition, temperature difference increased with the permanent layer thickness increases, but the temperature gradient layer lining and permanent layer were decreased. In this investigation, the reasonable thickness of alumina hollow ball castable was40mm, the reasonable thickness of shale haydite castable was less than30mm.
