| ABSTRACT: With the development of some industries such as machinery, automobiles and precision instruments, some steel grades with special requirementcan be produced. These steel should not only maintain its mechanical properties suchas strength, toughness, etc., but also to ensure the machinable property of steel. Thecutting property of steel can be improved by adding some easy cutting elements intosteel, such as P, S, Pb and so on.In this paper, the mechanisms of action of some factors influencing sulfideinclusions are analyzed to improve the cutting property of sulfur-bearing alloy steel. These factors include feeding Ca-Si wire, the timing of adding FeS, Ca-S and refiningslag. And on the basis of composition and denaturalization treatment of non-metallicinclusions in steel, the automatic date processing soft ware Image Pro Plus is used toanalyze quantitative indicators related to inclusions such as the size and amount ofsulfide. The analysis of inclusions in samples used in experiment shows thatpredictions are consistent with the actual results, namely:(1)It will advantage to feed FeS first for reducing the disordered anisotropicmechanical property.(2)While the rate of Ca/S increase, the number of grainycompound inclusions increases and the number of strip shaped sulphide inclusionsdecreases obviously, but the length and width of plasticity sulfide inclusions increasetoo. So it is essential to have the lower calcium content in the complex Ca-S treatedsteel.(3)The size of inclusions in the steel sample, which is smelting under thecondition of high basicity refining slag, is less than that one, which is smelting underthe condition of low basicity refining slag. |
