CWS(Coal Water Slurry)which makes use of coal instead of oil is a new kind ofclean fuel and it has much merit. The use of CWS has great significance to thecomplex utilization of coal, petroleum saving and environmental protection. But CWSis a solid-liquid two-phase mixture and acomplicated multistep dispersive suspensionsystem, so there are many factors influencing the slurrying and rheologicalcharacteristics of CWS. Mainly includes following contents:Firstly, factors and mechanics which influence the slurrying characteristics ofCWS are studied. There are many factors, such as the nature of coal (metamorphicgrade, partical-size distribution, ash content, mineral substance, grindability index),preparation technology (milling grinding method, equipment, intensity and time), thesize distribution and packing efficiency of coal, the type and quantity of additionagent, quality of water and so on.Secondly, the slurrying characteristics of Shenhua and Indonesia CWS arestudied. Shenhua and Indonesia coals have much inherent moisture, much oxygenousfunctional group and their grindability index are all small, so there are manydifficulties in preparing them to CWS. The maximum slurrying concentration ofShenhua CWS is always below55%, the maximum slurrying concentration ofIndonesia CWS is always below50%.This concentration is too small in practicalapplication. Some effective methods to improve the slurrying characteristics of ShenhuaCWS is put forward against the difficult reason. They are partical-size gradeddistribution, coal nature modified at low temperature. their action and microcosmicmechanics are studied by experiment. Finally, the maximum slurrying concentrationof Shenhua CWS is62.94%and Indonesia CWS is56.81%.
