Multifunctional core-shell nanoparticle (NP) has been widely applied in nanomedicine, catalyticchemistry and other fields for its functional internal core and outer shell, which can endow the NPswith new features. Among these core-shell structures, the yolk-shell NP is a special structure ofcore-shell NP, due to this structure of NP possesses a movable core, a functionalized outer shell, andthe interstitial void between the core and the shell. Therefore, the yolk-shell NPs with variousdifferent functionalities have attracted more and more attentions.This paper presents a simple, universal method, using poly (acrylic acid) as a template, to obtaineccentric Fe3O4@PAA/SiO2core-shell NCs and Fe3O4@C@TiO2yolk-shell NCs. They both have aspecial structure, unique properties, and different applications in many fields. The as-preparedmultifunctional eccentric Fe3O4@PAA/SiO2core-shell NCs which combine magnetic property,fluorescence imaging, and pH-responsive drug release into one can be used as pH-responsive drugcarrier. Furthermore, the magnetic Fe3O4@C@TiO2yolk-shell NCs exhibit excellentphotodegradation efficiency and cyclic stability for RhB. Moreover, we have synthesized theup-conversion rod@PAA/SiO2nanoparticles by this method, indicating that the method is versatile.Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-visiblespectrophotometer (UV-Vis) are the main characterizations in the paper.
