A Research On Designing Theme Banquet Dining Tables Under The Experience Economy

The banquet is one of the main ways for people to have the dinner, which has a long developmentalhistory in our country. Before the Ming Dynasty, the banquet was mainly the privilege of dignitaries andbusiness giants, while it was hard for the civilians to experience. With the changes of era and thedevelopment of the economy, the civilians have more chances to participate the banquet in the hotel.Accompanied by such chances, higher requirements for all types of banquets have been put forward, that is,the physical and mental pleasure is to be achieved in the banquet in addition to the original purpose ofsatisfying the very physical needs. Consequently, there are more and more characterized theme banquets,and hence, the table designs for the theme banquets has emerged and get the attention of more and moreguests.Nowadays, the experience economy has grown to lead the development of the society. Along withthe advent of the era of experience economy, the theme banquet and its table designs have been endowedwith new connotation and developmental opportunities. Moreover, the table designs are requiring moredetails and are developing in a new trend. The products that the banquet guests purchase every time in thetheme banquet are not only the real goods in essence but also a kind of feeling together with the physical,emotional, mental and spiritual experience. The attending to a variety of banquets is a process for the guestsfrom the passive acceptance to the positive participation, which is also a process to integrate the guests’ideas and requests into the consuming experience on the banquet. Therefore, when designing the themebanquet, the guests’ demands should be analyzed primarily, and then followed the utilizing of theAesthetics, Color Science, Psychology, and Nutrition knowledge so that the design can be well worked outto satisfy the guests’ demands. Meanwhile, the designing factors, such as Napkin Folding Flower, BanquetMenu and Flower Arrangement, are to be innovated in order to meet the customers’ needs in the experienceeconomy.Based on the train of thought of asking questions, analyzing and solving problems, this paperconsists of the following6chapters: Chapter1is the introduction, which includes the background, thesignificance, the framework and the main contents of this dissertation; Chapter2is the literature review,which focuses on the introduction to the connotation of experience, the experience economy, the banquet designing, the theme banquet designing and banquet table designing, etc as well as the research status athome and abroad; Chapter3discusses the rationale in theme banquet table designing and the customers’experience, which introduces the classification of the theme banquets, the principles and the procedures oftheme banquet table designing, that is, the designer should handle the designing on the premise of meetingthe customers’ demands so as to promote the customers’ satisfaction. Chapter4is the focus of this paper,which discusses the various ways and strategies to banquet designing by integrating the table designingelements, the customers’ aesthetic and cultural needs so that the customers’ needs can be embodied in thedesigning, their psychological demands can be mostly achieved and their satisfaction may be promotedmuch higher while the customers enjoy the banquet; Chapter5is a case study, which tends to have a betterunderstanding about customers’ satisfaction and experience effect towards the products by analyzing aspecific process of designing a banquet table; Chapter6is the conclusion, which summarizes the contentsdiscussed above, puts forward the creative points of this paper, figures out the lack of the study andmeanwhile proposes the subsequent research direction.
