It has been widely known that nitrogen and phosphorus are the two main nutrient elements that could index the degree of eutrophication of surface water body. To get better understanding of the occurrence and transport of TN and TP in the different media, water body, sediment, and reed, would be of helpful for restoring and controlling the water body eutrophication degree in Lake Wulansuhai. The long term monitoring data of Lake Ulansuhai was analyzed. The results showed that TN and TP represented different temple and special changing characteristics in the different media. In the water body, the highest average concentration of TN and TP was occurred in the winter and then decreased with time to the lowest concentration in the autumn. The average ratio of TN to TP was17.94meaning that it was in the state of eutrophication. In the sediment, the highest concentration of TN was occurred in the top layer and decreased downward. However, TP varied vertically and no significant similarity was found. The thickness of the sediment had been increased by1Omm per year. As a result of this,6913.5t of TN and2388.3t of TP had been stored within the sediment. To identify the occurrence and transport of TN and TP in the water body, sediment, and the reed, field investigation, sampling and lab analysis were carried out. The concentration distribution of TN and TP in the water body, sediment, and reed were specially monitored between May and November in2013.The results showed that the concentration distribution characteristics of TN and TP were approximately the same with the long term monitoring results in both the water body and sediment. However, the concentrations of TN and TP in the reed were varied with growing periods. The highest concentration of TN occurred in the summer (August), which was4.1and10.2times more than that in the spring and autumn respectively. The highest concentration of TP occurred in the spring and decreased with growing time, which was1.8and3.1times more than that in the summer and autumn respectively. The TN and TP concentrations in the top layer of the sediment varied with that in the water body.
