Through researching and analysising the three indicators which reflect the machinabilityof hardened steel, including cutting deformation mechanism, morphological chips and cuttingforces, the influence of cutting parameter for these three indicators have been found.Itprovides a theoretical basis for choosing the cutting parameter reasonably. To verify the feasibility and correctness of the research programs, trails research ofquenched45weel with smaller hardness were conducted firstly, mainly researching its cuttingdeformation mechanism. Trials programs of obtaining root chips have been determined by thepre-research.At the same time, the size and shape of the workpieaces alse have been designedso that the chips roots can be made more smoothly. The influences of cutting speed and feedrate per tooth for the shear angle and shear strain have been obtained by the method of singlefactor testes. To reseach the morphological of chips of the quenched45weel,the type of chipmorphology has been known by trials. The influences of cutting speed and feed rate per toothfor the morphological of chips have been obtained. The deformation mechanism of cutting hardened steel has been studied. The influencesof the cutting parameter for the chip roots have been reseached with the the single factortestes. The influences of the per tooth feed rate and cutting speed for the shear angle and shearstrain also have been obtained by lots of trials, choosing more appropriate axial depth of cutand radial depth of cut. Cutting forces during the milling of hardened steel have been studied.A kind of fixture used in milling trials has been designed and manufactured. It not only can befixed on the Kistler dynamometer to use,but also be used alone away from thedynamometer, easy to use and having large clamping force. The influences of the per toothfeed rate and cutting speed for the cutting force have been obtained by trails. It provides apreliminary reference for selecting the appropriate cutting parameters in actual production.
