With the reduction of rich ore reserves and the increase demand for metals, we need to deal with more and more ore. This requires us to expand the scale of the concentrator, improve the performance of mineral processing equipment. Grinding process is an important part of ore beneficiation process. And the semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill is the key equipment in the grinding process. Therefore, the work is valuable, which is that we study the grinding process and optimizing the operating parameters of the semi-autogenous grinding mill.The subject is selected from the actual production process of the Dahongshan Mining Company, Yuxi, Yunnan Province. The SAG mill is a crushing grinding machine. It is in the front of the entire ore beneficiation process. Whether it can be high efficiency grinding and stable operation is directly related to the efficiency of beneficiation processes. Accordingly it indirectly affect the production and economic benefits.In this paper, the SAG mill MZS8848was selected for the study. Discrete element method was used to study the movement of the grinding media. Particle bonding model was used to simulate the ore crushing process. The impact was in-depth analyzed that is the transfer rate, fill rate, ball’s size and the ratio of material and ball impact the grinding efficiency. On the basis of the analysis, the orthogonal test was utilized to design test program. In the test program, the power per unit mass and the number of broken bonding per unit mass were used as evaluation index, and the transfer rate, the number of ore, ball’s size and the number of ball were used as experimental factor. According to this,9groups of test were finalized. Then the EDEM was used to simulate the program by group. Finally, the range analysis method was used to determine the important among the test factors, and the best combination of the factors. The variance analysis method was used to analyze the important among the factors by quantitatively. Based on the two analysis, the optimum operating parameters were obtained.A reference is provided to choose the operating parameters of the large scale SAG mill in this paper. This study has practical significance to improving grinding efficiency, reducing energy and steel consumption.
