With the deepening of economic globalization, China has become the world’smanufacturing center. Faced with increasingly severe challenges from domestic andforeign enterprises, the production mode of China’s steel industry has started thetransformation from extensive to intensive. Steel companies have begun to look forthe the way of transformation respectively. The use of information systems to enhancethe management level and accelerate the intensive steps is widely used in steelcompanies. After Heavy Plate Plant of XISC puted into operation, the production hasbeen continuing to increase with the smooth progress of expected production capacityand efficiency. As there was no information system support, the data collection washuge, the information was not shared among processes, manual transmission andaccuracy were not high, the process convergences weren’t close, productionorganization were more and more difficult, resulting in the difficulties in guaranteeingthe product qualities and delivery time. It is particularly urgent to develop acomputer information system to promote the production management level of HeavyPlate Mill in XISC to a new stage and provide a powerful support in production,marketing and business.The paper constructs the MES system of Heavy Plate Mill in terms of the need ofXISC information construction, which aims at engineering design and implementationof Heavy Plate Mill in XISC. The paper makes a detailed analysis and design in mainmodules and interfaces of MES according to the production process of heavy plate.The paper has several innovative points. First, in terms of the demand of single-piecetracking of Heavy Plate in XISC, the system studies and applies the multidimensionalwhole-course contract-tracking technology in order handling, production planning,manufacturing, dispatch and receiving to provide a powerful support in leanmanufacturing and improve customer satisfaction. Second, the system builds a moduleof intelligence mainboard, effectively relieving and solving the conflict of marketsmall quantities, various specifications, individual requirements and field-scalecommon production and achieving the production of low cost and high efficiency.Third, the system establishes the module of production scheduling and dispatchingplan of steelmaking to effectively work out the conflict among equipments, realizereasonable resources allocation of production facilities. The module also maximizes production capacity of facilities to easing the workload of workers and avoidunstability of workers’ scheduling efficiency.The MES system of Heavy Plate in XISC contains six function modules:production management, task plan management, management of material tracking andperformance, warehouse management, management of product export andmanagement of large tool instrument and roller. Each function module forms aninformation closed processing system from order input to product export in terms ofmanagement objects like order, plan and material.
