As our country pay more and more attentions to the coal mine safety, researching new technologies to ensure safety in coal mines becomes a hot concern. There are some limitations for mine monitoring system in mining roadway with cable transmission method. One is along with the mining roadway structure changing in the process of mining, the cable synchronous extension is troublesome. The other is it’s difficult for mobile machines and some special corners to decorate monitoring nodes to realize mine omnibearing monitoring. Because ZigBee wireless communication technology has characters of low power consumption, low cost, simple application and so on, this paper presents a design of the mine environment monitoring system based on ZigBee wireless communication technology.This paper deeply analyzes the mine roadway structure, main factors of mine disaster, monitoring requirements, status and development trends of domestic and international research, and then puts forward the mine monitoring system scheme based on ZigBee technology. This paper analyzes in detail the system structure,functions and operating principles. The system adopts the combination of network structure with RS-485communication cable in the main roadway and ZigBee wireless communication in the mining roadway. ZigBee network via the network topology. PC and downhole monitoring nodes use standard Modbus protocol to communicate. PC uses LabView to receive, storage and display datas.This paper analyzes in detail the monitoring node hardware design,including the structure module composition, hardware selection and each module detailed design. The software realization process of monitoring nodes driving sensors detecting environmental informations is analyzed in detail. This paper analyzes in detail the implementation process of ZigBee wireless communication, makes the Modbus protocol and analyzes in detail the software implementation process of Modbus protocol. Finally, the realization of functions of the mine environment monitoring system and the accuracy of monitoring datas are tested. Test results show that the system can accurately and reliably display environment monitoring informations, confirmed the scheme is feasible.
