Fluorinated acrylate polymer is a kind of important high polymer material with unique low surface energy, high biocompatibility, and good weather resistance, as well as chemical resistance. At present, widely used materials containing fluorine with hydrophobicity and oleophobicity are mainly fluorinated acrylate polymers containing long-chain perfluoroalkyl(CnF2n+i, n>8), which is very difficult to degradate in the natural environment and can accumulate in animal or plant body for long term with toxicity and potential carcinogenicity. Therefore, the exploration of short chain fluorinated acrylate polymer materials with excellent surface properties was paid extensive attention by scholars.Using2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid (TFMAA) as the original material,2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid methyl ester (MTFMA) functional monomer was designed and synthesized in this paper. Then, the MTFMA as functional monomer, poly2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid methyl ester (P-MTFMA) was further synthesized with free radical solution polymerization method. Meanwhile the influence factors and the optimum reaction conditions in synthetic process were systematically studied. Besides, the structure and properties of P-MTFMA were analyzed using infra-red spectrometer, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, thermo-gravimetric analyzer, gel permeation chrommatograph and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the influence of assembling film method, solvent and film temperature on hydrophobic and oleophobic performance of P-MTFMA was studied systematically.The result indicated that:the optimal synthetic condition of MTFMA was70℃of reaction temperature,1:1.3of concentration ratio of TFMAA and dimethyl sulfate, for8hour. As for P-MTFMA, the optimum condition was under toluene as solvent, wt0.1%of BPO initiator,30h of polymerization time, polymerization mixing speed for100r/min. P-MTFMA prepared under this condition has4.9836×105of average molecular weight and3256of polymerization. And, the P-MTFMA film prepared at80℃in three fluorine toluene with drop delay method has excellent hydrophobic and oleophobic performance forming137.5°and95.8°of contact angle with water and hexadecane respectively.In this paper, novel short chain fluorinated acrylate polymer materials, poly2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid methyl ester (P-MTFMA) was successfully synthesized with good hydrophobic and oleophobic performance, whose average molecular weight was4.9836×105, polymerization was3256. In addition, the research on reaction conditions, structure and properties of P-MTFMA was conducted systematically, which provide certain reference for the design and synthesis of short chain fluorinated acrylate polymer materials with excellent surface properties.
