The profiled ring rolling process is a highly efficient plastic forming technologywhich can reduce the section dimension, shape the section contour and expand thediameter under the pressure of rolls. In the production of profiled ring, it combinesvarieties of material forming processes, such as: upsetting, expanding, ring rolling, heattreatment, machining, etc. Every process taken in this production will bring in residualstress in the ring. Those residual stresses interplay each other during the process andstay in the ring finally. The residual stress may cause the ring size change, structuredeformation and crack. If those happened, the ring product may be a waste thatdecreases production efficiency and wastes lots of materials. This paper researched one profiled ring in order to analyze the residual stressoccurred in ring rolling process. The analysis includes the whole ring rolling processand the heat treatment keeping the stress passing step by step. By doing this, theresidual stress development and the influence of process parameters on residual stresscan be easily studied. Firstly, the whole ring rolling process model and the stress releasemodel were built under FORGE. By simulated different process parameters, theinfluence of different parameters on residual stress was got. Then the heat treatmentmodel was established to study the influence of heat treatment parameters on residualstress. At last, an optimized measure was proposed to control the residual stress. The simulations of the whole profiled ring rolling process and heat treatmentshowed the result as follow. The residual stress state of this profiled ring has an axialgradient that the thinner part is larger than the thicker part. The ring rolling parametershave different influence on residual stress. The temperature has a great influence onresidual stress. The higher temperature is good for reducing residual stress in a range oftemperature. But it will increase the residual stress when temperature gets too high. Ifonly the rotate speed and the feeding speed satisfied the process require, the influence ofthose parameter on residual stress is not that remarkable. As to increasing the efficient, the rotate speed and the feeding speed may choose the higher value. At the end, the lowresidual stress profiled ring is got with the optimized process model.
