Underground car park has become the preferred choice in residential areadesign with the rapidly increase of China’s private car ownership and high-riseresidential buildings in recent years. As a place to park the vehicles, there are a largenumber of staff activities in underground car park. So, the pollution problem can notbe ignored. Characteristics of CO and particulate matter pollution are studied basedon a field test in an underground car park in a residential area located in Harbin.A naturally ventilated underground car park is selected for this study. First ofall, influencing factors within the underground car park, such as ventilationconditions, temperature and humidity, and the operation of vehicles, are analyzed. As the most energy-efficient ventilation, natural ventilation can be easily infulencedby weather conditions and can be controlled as the ventilation strategy changes.Underground car park is in underground space, so in a short time, temperature andhumidity are often able to maintain stable. And unlike that in car parks located incommercial buildings, the operation of vehicles is often related with work and resttime of the residents and there will have a stronger regularity. Then, the characteristics of each pollutant in the underground car park areanalyzed. The time distribution characteristics of CO and particulate matterpollution are discussed and daily and annual variation regularity is summarized. Andspatial distribution of CO and particulate matter mass concentration is introduced, including respective characteristics of horizontal and vertical distribution. Based onthe analysis of the variation of each pollutant, its influencing factors are studied. Amodel of comprehensive change in CO is given and the impact of various factors onthe particulate matter is discussed by pearson correlation and partial correlation. Finally, the correlation between pollutants is studied. CO and particulate matterpollution levels are compared. And correlation of CO and particulates are analyzedseparately and the relationship is summarized. In addition, based on the particle sizedistribution studies, the correlation between particle pollution is discussed, including correlation between mass concentration of particles with different size andcorrelation between mass concentration and number concentration of particles withthe same size. The conversion formula is given for each of the mass concentrationand the relationship and range of variation of mass concentration and numberconcentration is analyzed.
