Due to the material advantages in the physical and chemical properties, siliconcarbide has become the main materials to make space optical lens. Because of thephysical properties of the material itself, grinding with diamond grinding wheelbecame the main processing methods of silicon carbide material, it’s propertiesof hard and brittle lead to different degree of wear and tear appeared in grindingprocess, grinding wheel wear and tear will not only affect the surface quality ofworkpiece, and it will affect the workpiece surface shape accuracy. Therefore,further study of grinding wheel wear and its effect on the surface quality ofsilicon carbide mirror processing has a very important role.This paper adopts block partition type distribution of the grinding wheelblocks to grind of silicon carbide workpiece, in the process of grinding, abrasivewear form on the surface of grinding wheel piece would be counted, in order tomake a sμmmary of grinding wheel wear changing with the processing time.According to the wear of grinding wheel and workpiece surface quality, analyzesthe cause of the grinding wheel wear form, in order to make a compare, usenormal grinding wheel to do some experiment to verify the correctness of thegrinding wheel piece of wear rules.Through the experiment of diamond wheel to grind of silicon carbideceramic, adopt two different measurement methods, explore the connectionbetween wear rate over time and the wheel linear displacement, and innerrelationship between removal rate of workpiece and the grinding wear rate, andget grinding ratio. Research shows that: in grinding, the change trend of grindingwear rate and removal rate is smooth, at the beginning of the grinding, grindingratio is small, with the grinding process, grinding ratio gradually increased. Dueto the grinding wheel surface dynamic grinding grain nμmber changing with time,the curve of the grinding ratio also presents certain volatility.The study found that silicon carbide ceramic surface has obvious scratchphenomenon after grinding, and surface roughness has a decline trend along withthe grinding. Under the grinding parameters in this experiment, brittle removal isthe main removal way of silicon carbide; In the determination of feed grindingway, measure the ceramic surface roughness, to get the relations trend betweensurface roughness and wear; Using MATLAB simulate the relationship betweenwear rate and surface shape accuracy of large diameter silicon carbide mirror,and get the simulate equation between them.
