The mold, known as the "heart" of continuous casting machine, is a key component ofcontinuous casting equipments. It is the birthplace of most surface and internal defects.Continuous casting process is an integrated process that relates to high temperature andcomplex physical and chemical phenomena. Solidification, heat transfer and fluid flow arealso included. Up to now, there are no effective means to test accurately. Therefore, mathematical simulation is an efficient measure to predict related phenomena ofcontinuous casting and optimize the parameters of continuous casting process. In recent years, with the rapid development of national economy and the increasing ofbuilding super high-rise and large-span steel construction projects, the demand for heavyplate with more heavy thickness and better properties used in construction and machineryhas been increasing. As a large demanded steel currently, heavy-thickness plates is beingwidely developed and researched. Utilizing the ANSYS Workbench, FLUENT and so oncommercial software, Three models were set up according to the theory of computationalfluid dynamics. The flow field field in the three heavy thickness slab models under theconditions of different technological parameter were calculated. With the influence ofimmersion depth, angle of the nozzle port and the speed, the effects on the flow field of themolten steel in the mould were studied. From the numerical simulation research, the conclusions can be drawn: While thecasting speed increasing, the level fluctuation and the jet impingement strength to thenarrow wall increase; While the mmersion depth of nozzle decreasing, this can reduce thelevel fluctuation and the upper recirculation area; while the angle of the nozzle portincrease, the level fluctuation and the jet impingement strength to the narrow wall decrease.Identified the three specifications of heavy thickness slab reasonable parameters. the1200mm400mm heavy thickness slab reasonable parameters: speed is0.6m/min,mmersion depth of nozzle is170mm, angle of the nozzle port is15o; the1600mm 400mm heavy thickness slab reasonable parameters: speed is0.4m/min, mmersion depthof nozzle is150mm, angle of the nozzle port is15o; the1600mm500mm heavythickness slab reasonable parameters: speed is0.4m/min, mmersion depth of nozzle is130mm, angle of the nozzle port is15o.
