The most common catalytic materials for catalytic hydrocracking of coal and coal-relatedmodel compounds are iron sulfdes of various types. Much of recent research has forced on theimprovement of catalyst dispersibility to improve the effectiveness of catalysts. The supportedultrafine composition metal catalyst was prepared by impregnating proportional volume ofcarbonyl iron and nickel carbonyl into a suitable carrier. The results showed that the percentconversion of DNM was91.92%when γ-Al2O3waschosen as a carrier.Modern models of coal structure including two-component mode, association mode, andcomplex mode, all suggest that there is a certain amount of solubles associated in coal matrixstructure by non-covalent bonds such as hydrogen bond. Geting bituminous coal (GBC) wasultrasonically extracted with acetone and carbon disulfide binary mixed solvent to affordextracts and extraction residue (GBCER).The reaction mixture was extracted with petroleum ether (PE), carbon disulfide, methanol, acetone and acetone and carbon disulfide binary mixed solvent sequentially. The concentratedPE soluble fraction (PESF) and coals were analyzed with a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR).The PESF was analyzed with a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The PESF mainlyconsisted of arenes, alkanes and oxygen compounds. The yield of arenes was the highest.By comparison, hydrogen played an important role for the solubilization of phonels andphthalates in thermal decomposition of GBC and GBCER. The yields of toluene, xylene, naphthalene and naphthalenes derivatives were improved by catalysis, but phenolswere no significant change in the PESFs. The catalyst was effective for the breaking of C-C,but failed the solubilization of phonels. The increased alkanes of PESF from GBC werestraight-chain paraffin while one third of the increased alkanes of PESF from GBCER werebranched paraffin.
