China contains huge amount of sulphur coal resource. Sulphur coal is a kind of importantcoal resources which possesses potential economic value. However, sulfur is one of theharmful elements in coal. It will cause pollution during the process of using. Therefore, it issignificant to investigate the sulfur transformation characteristic during sulphur coalupgrading. In this paper, Chenghe coal and Hengshan coal was chosen to investigate thesulfur transformation during high-sulfur coal hydrocracking in order to offer relatedreferences to the multiple usages of high-sulfur coal.Effects of catalyst type, catalyst additive amount, desulfurization, reaction temperatureon coal hydrocracking and existence of sulfur in each products are discussed by means ofsingle-factor experiments, and hydrocracking kinetic, sulfur transformation characteristic andsulfur transformation mechanism can be concluded based on the experiment results.The results shows that Fe2O3can preferably fix sulfur into residue compared with NiCl2;The higher of Fe2O3additive amount, the better of sulfur fixation; Desulfurization is in favorof organic sulfur transformation. Sulfocompound with thiophene structure which also containsa few amounts of thioether, sulfone, sulfoxide, benzenethiol, thioketone and sulfonate in themain liquid product of two hydrocracked high-sulfur coal; The higher of coal rank, the littleeffect of catalyst on the sulfur distribution in liquid product; Desulfurization has very littleeffects on the forms of sulfur in liquid product.Reaction kinetic of Hengshan coal hydrocracking was also investigated in this paper.Experiment data of Hengshan coal under420℃are accurately in accordance with thesimulation curve.According to experimental data of coal hydrocracking and related references, sulfurtransformation mechanism of coal hydrocracking was clarified: There exists mutualtransformation of each sulfur forms during coal hydrocracking; Organic sulfur can react withactive hydrogen atom to produce H2S or organic sulfocompound with higher molecular weight via the condensation reaction with small molecular substance or free radical; H2Splays a bridging role in the mutual transformation between inorganic sulfur and organic sulfur.
