Atmospheric pollution problem is becoming more and more serious, anda large number of pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in theatmospheric particulates are found. PAHs are the oldest carcinogenicsubstance discovered in the nature, which could induce cutaneous, scrotumand lung cancer.PAHs can be produced in many ways, for example, incomplete combustion of petroleum and coal and emissions of automobileexhaust. They are easily adsorbed on atmospheric particulate matters, especially PM10and PM2.5.Because PM10and PM2.5particulates can beindrafted into the human body, the pollutant absorbed on the particulateswould cause extremely serious harm to human health. In this research,a novel analytical method is established to analyze PAHsin PM10and PM2.5by combining accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) withultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC),aiming to overcome thedefects in general method detecting PAHs in PM10and PM2.5.After theresearch work, the following conclusion was got:1. PM10and PM2.5atmosphere samples were extracted with ASEmethod. Being Compared with different solvent, temperature, extractingtimes, the final extraction method is as followed:samples were extracted byASE with dichloromethane-acetone(1/1, v/v) at120℃on the pressure of 1500psi, preheated5min,staticly extracted5min and repeated twicely, andrinsed the pipeline with extraction solvent of60%volume.2. Determination method for PAHs by UPLC coupled with PDA wassetup.the recoveries were75%~98%,and the relative standard derivations(RSD) of PAHs were between0.54%and8.97%,3.The utilization of the determination method for PAHs was evaluated.concentration of PAHs from PM10and PM2.5samples respectively. PAHs inthe PM10and PM2.5samples collected from10locations in Guiyang weredetermined with the above method.16PAHs in every sample were detected, and the results of recoveries of PAHs in the experiment indicated the methodis accurate, with high efficiency and good convenience.
