With the reform and opening up and rapid economic development, higher and higherrequirements are brought forward for pressure vessels in the refining and chemical industry. On the one hand in order to keep up with demand growth rate of domestic crude oil in recentyears. Imports from abroad, especially in the Middle East high-sulfur crude oil increased yearby year, and corrosion of pressure vessels due to the diversification of oil sources are moreprominent. On the other hand, more and more refining in order to improve economicefficiency and generally want to extend the maintenance cycle. It makes that a strongcorrosion resistance of titanium pressure vessels are more and more used. Acoustic emissiondetection technology in the pressure vessel testing plays an irreplaceable role. But not yet aacoustic emission testing standard for specialized titanium pressure vessels of industrial hasbeen used to guide the aspects of the work carried out at home and abroad. Therefore, It is ofgreat significance for improving the acoustic emission testing standards and ensuring safety inproduction to research acoustic emission technique about non-ferrous metals titanium. This topic comes from "The Sub-topic of12th Five-Year National Science andTechnology Support Program" about”Acoustic Emission Testing Technology Research ForNon-ferrous Metals”. There is no reference standard for the industry about titanium pressurevessels for acoustic emission detection technology, so the subject test started from thetitanium plate, titanium tensile specimens and titanium pressure vessels. The test first started from the attenuation characteristics of materials of acousticemission signals, It compared titanium and several other commonly used materials of thepressure vessel, and then initially identified attenuation characteristics of acoustic emissionsignals of the titanium material. The degree of attenuation of the acoustic emission signalsdetermine the layout of the transducer, while evaluating the intensity of the acoustic emissionsource needs referencing the acoustic emission signal amplitude coming from the plastic stage. The second part of the test is to research the tensile testing of the titanium material. Byanalyzing the signal characteristics of the tensile stage especially the plastic stage, the reference criterion of signal strength was obtained. The last part of the test is to research thesignal attenuation in the pressure vessel made of titanium. The transducer arrangement of thespecific structure can be obtained by analyzing attenuation of the acoustic emission signals inthe titanium pressure vessels.
