Polypropylene fibers as excellent engineering fiber, its main advantages: goodmechanical properties, resistance to chemical attack, moth-eaten, but also some fatalweakness: non-absorbent, easy to play group, and cement mixing more difficult, dispersion inthe concrete is not conducive to the formation of fiber reinforced concrete collective interface. In order to overcome this shortcoming, the modification of polypropylene. At the same timein order to improve the mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber and production costs ofpolypropylene filled with modified.Based on the above ideas, with 1500 mesh heavy calcium carbonate and polyethyleneglycol modified polypropylene by melt blending method, I hope to enable it to increase thehydrophilic properties, can also increase the mechanical properties, but also to reduceproduction costs. Synthetic polypropylene fiber, the two process routes and analysis ofvariance by orthogonal experiments, the results were found step method were modifiedpolypropylene fiber and two-step trend is basically the same. When the system with 2%stearic acid activation of heavy calcium carbonate, filling in 30% polyethylene glycol contentof 10%, the fibers have good mechanical and hydrophilic properties. We discuss the mechanical properties of modified polypropylene and hydrophilicproperties. The results show that the system of heavy calcium carbonate and stearic acidincreased, the breaking strength of the fiber first and then drop the polyethylene glycol haslittle effect on fiber rupture strength; with the system of polyethylene glycol content increasethe hydrophilic properties of the fiber increased, but increases to a certain extent, steadilyimprove. At the same time use were characterized by SEM, IR, DSC, TG, and other means ofcharacterization of the microstructure of the fiber, the hydrophilic groups and thermalstability. The modification effect of the evaluation of modified polypropylene fibers in concrete, fiber moisture absorption rate, alkali resistance, dispersion and fiber cement adhesion test. The experimental results show that the moisture absorption rate of the modifiedpolypropylene fiber has increased substantially modified before, good alkali resistance, hasgood dispersion properties in water, and the adsorption capacity of fiber surface of cementalso increased significantly.
