Fujian tulou is a special product, which pushes adobe architecture flourish to the extreme. Fujian tulou is the historical and cultural carrier of the western and southern Fujian province. Fujian tulou reflects builders’ scientific and technological level. Fujian tulou reflects local customs, life style and aesthetic ideal. Therefore, to conduct the thorough research to the Fujian tulou has important historical value.Due to the lack of effective attention and protection, the number of Fujian tulou is gradually decreased. At present, the research of earth construction is rather weak, and the standard procedure applies to Fujian tulou is relatively less. Therefore, to conduct the thorough research to the seismic performance and problems of Fujian tulou is well complementary for earth construction researches, and which has important practical significance and practical value.Study on the seismic performance of Fujian tulou in the background of working on protection of earth construction and Fujian tulou.(1)By many field reviews in this study, a great number of data about Fujian tulou are collected. Through in-depth study and comparison of 12 representative Fujian Tulou conduct, select the "Rushenglou" and the "Qingfulou" as the test model of this paper.(2)Based on an overall consideration of experimental site considerations,equipment, test accuracy and similar principles, designed two wall thicknesses of 120 mm,145mm round earth building models and two wall thicknesses of95 mm,120mm square earth building models, which are in accordance with a scale of 1:20.And the El Centro wave, Kobe and Shanghai artificial wave are selected as earthquake simulator table input wave. In the middle of this model tests, the maximum peak acceleration of seismic waves and duration,according to the similarity coefficient, are amplified and compressed separately.(3)By using the shaking table of the laboratory of Fuzhou University, the four model tests are completed. Through comparative analysis of experimental phenomena of the round and square models, we have reached the dynamic characteristics and the seismic responses of the two models. And we haveanalyzed its structure crack propagation law and failure mechanism. Finally,from the further study of the frequency, acceleration response and displacement response, we can obtain the effect of the shape, original crack,wall thickness, seismic wave kinds, and other factors on the overall seismic performance of earth building models.Results of this study can provide a certain reference value for the further research on the seismic performance of Fujian tulou and other rammed earth building.
