The increasing forms of materials will have no doubt bring a new dawn to the study of electromagnetic field. The advent of metamaterials not only made the negative index materials come true, but also extend the range of the electromagnetic parameters’ values to the whole real number field. Metamaterials has become a hot topic in the recent decade, and with the aid of them,the research about electromagnetic has been greatly promoted. What’s more, it is convenient to use metamaterials to design novel devices for the controllable and specific features of themselves.Transformation optics(TO) theory, which was proposed in 2006, is an efficient way to control the electromagnetic field. And some peculiar equipment, such as invisible cloaks and illusions, were created by the TO theory and metamaterials. At present, the concept of metamaterial has been successfully applied to many other fields, such as acoustic, thermal and quantum mechanics.This article mainly discussed the following work:1. Three types of metamaterials, the transmission line, the famous copper strips and split ring res-onator array(SRR-wire) structure and photonic crystals were introduced. And the reasons for them forming of specific index materials were analyzed.2. The TO theory was introduced here. And two illusion devices--electromagnetic gateway and superscatter were presented in detail. We also provided the improvement and implementation of the devices.3. We tried to seek simplified way to achieve the above mentioned illusion devices, and performed experiments to validate the devices.
