In the process of manufacturing, holes or rigid inclusions emerge in the molding process of hyperelastic membranes, as a result of residual catalysts and impurities. These kinds of macro defects have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of membrane. The rubber membrane with defect is widely used in the aerospace, marine and appliances, and other fields. Therefore, the finite deformation analysis of the defective rubber-like membrane has theoretical significance and engineering values.A new strain energy density function which is modified from Gent’s model and taking the incompressible material strain hardening phenomenon into account has been built by using the finite deformation theory. In the incompressible condition, when n=1, the new constitutive model converted to Gent model; when n=1the new constitutive model converted to Neo-Hookean model. The main contents of this paper are as follows:At first, the rubber-like membrane under basic load(uniaxial tension and biaxial tension) is calculated which has proved that the new constitutive model is applicative.Secondly, the paper uses the new constitutive model to resolve the finite deformation problem of defective rubber-like membrane. Finally, the corresponding analytical solution is obtained and the corresponding deformation modes are demonstrated in the paper. All above analysis processes has also discussed the influence of constitutive parameters on deformation and stress distribution of rubber-like membrane. At last, on the other hand, this paper uses ABAQUS importing the new constitutive model user subroutine from FORTRAN subroutine interface which is provided for the user-defined material properties. Then the paper uses the ABAQUS to simulate the finite deformation of the defective rubber-like membrane which contains a hole or a rigid inclusion. Finally, the corresponding numerical solution is obtained. The influence of constitutive parameters on deformation and stress distribution have also been discussed at the same time. The paper compared the numerical solution with the analytical solution and the result proved that the analytical solution is right. The paper also discussed the effects of defects which is a elliptic hole or a rigid elliptic inclusion on rubber-like membrane. The conclusion of this paper can provide a deep cognition in mechanical properties theory, theoretical calculation and numerical simulation of defective rubber-like membrane for related scholars. And it also can provide references for the technical design of rubber-like membrane.
