Research On Urban Built-up Area Expansion And Driving Forces Based On High-Resolution Remote Sensing Image

Urbanization is the historical transformation process of human’s production and life style from rural to urban. It has inevitably become the main trend due to the development of modernization in China. The most outstanding feature of urbanization is the building land scape expansion. As the most important index to research on urban space expansion, built-up area can help grasping the scale and development trend of a city rapidly and accurately, thereby formulating rational urban development strategy. Recently, remote sensing image is widely used as basic data in assisting bulit-up area research.Therefore, with the help of built-up area from remote sensing image, this paper mainly analyzes the characteristics and driving forces of urban expansion. The research mainly focuses on Nanhu district and Xiuzhou district of Jiaxing, the high resolution remote sensing image of which is from 1993 to 2013. Information extraction method based on remote sensing image, space-time analysis method based on geographic information science and driving analysis method based on mathematical statistics are used in this paper. The research contents include following aspects:First, this paper describes the procedure of built-up area extraction through building classification and form modification according to the present researches on definition and specification standardization of built-up area. The classification rule of building consists of spectral feature, geometric feature, texture feature and edge feature. The form modification rule is defined for specific situations. Based on these rules, this paper completes the extraction of Jiaxing’s built-up area from GF-1 satellite image of 2013.Second, this paper studies the spatial pattern of built-up area of Jiaxing in 1993, 1998,2003,2008 and 2013, quantitatively calculates expansion characters in each of these time periods, and analyzes the expansion process on aspects of direction, distance and rationality. Research shows Jiaxing’s built-up area expansion rapid has changed from increase to decrease, and stables these years. The expansion occurs from inside to outside, including filling-up building along the border and external building. The expansion speed is inconsistent with the population growth speed.Finally, this paper studies the driving force factors of built-up area expansion in Jiaxing by correlational analysis method and causal relation test based on statistical data, obtains the relational function between principal factors and built-up area by principal component analysis and multiple linear regression, explains main driving factors including economy, production structure and population, and gives suggestions for city development in Jiaxing.
