By using field investigation, laboratory analysis, and combined with previous data, the Jurassic source rocks from the Minhe Basin grow background, the shale distribution, the shale geochemical and the shale reservoir characteristics were studied. The former conditions of the shale gas was analyzed. Yaojie Formation, Middle Jurassic in Minhe Basin is mainly a continental environment and it’s outcrops distributes in Tanshanling mountain, Yaojie and Aganzhen Town scattered, with the shale mainly distributes in Yongdeng and Bazhou depression at a thickness up to 140 m and a set shale member with a rich organic matter was identified. The key shale member of the middle Jurassic in Minhe Basin must located in the middle and bottom of the Yaojie Formation, with the organic matter type II and have entered a mature evolution stage. The Total Organic Carbon(TOC) can be up to 8~10 percent in the Yongdeng and Bazhou depression which suggests the Middle Jurassic in Minhe Basin has potential forming the shale gas. The Middle Jurassic shale in Minhe Basin has a relatively high clay mineral contents with the average of 55.75% while the brittle mineral contents relatively less than the average of 39.5%. The porosity and permeability is 3.63% and 2148×10-6m D, Shale is a very low porosity and permeability. On the basis of the source rocks evaluation, calculates the gas content in Yongdeng Depression according to the shale gas occurrence. The investigation suggests that, the shale of Yaojie formation, Middle Jurassic in Minhe Basin has better shale resource potential.The geological reserves of shale gas are abundant in our country, roughly comparable to the US. So strengthen the shale gas exploration and development is not only an urgent requirement for meeting the needs of gas in our country, but also the planning for national energy development strategy, the amount of resources favorable shale gas area is 4128.40 × 108m3, with the measured gas content results showed that the amount of computing resources: a favorable area of shale gas resources to 479.65 × 10~8m~3.
