Disastrous weather and earthquake are both the natural disasters that will endanger human activities. The usage of thermal infrared data of meteorological satellites, which can extract seismic information from atmosphere background, highlights the advantages of interdisciplinary relationships. China is a country where most inland earthquakes occurs, these earthquakes with high frequentness, high intensity and wide distribution made it crucially important to strengthen the research of them. Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of the theories and methods of seismic stereoscopic observation and prediction based on satellite remote sensing in the field of international seismic observation, which has received extensive attention at home and abroad. Amount of research work has proved that thermal infrared remote sensing is a prospective method of seismic prediction.This study uses the thermal infrared brightness temperature (TBB) data of FY-2E meteorological satellite, selects Xinjiang Area and Sichuan-Yunnan Area as the main research area, introduces the complete establishing methods of background fields, establishes the TBB background fields with multiple temporal scales. Based on the background fields, this study analyzes the distribution and variation characteristics of TBB background fields of different temporal scales and spans in Xinjiang and Sichuan-Yunnan Area, usesgeological datato verify the veracity of surface thermal infrared radiation information reflected by TBB background fields, which can provide reference data and basis for the extraction of seismic thermal anomalies information of TBB before earthquakes occur. According to the results above, this study summarizes the differences of TBB background fields in different temporal scales and analyzes respective applicabilites.Based on the modern meteorological statistics methods, this study proposed an algorithm,’DTADA, Daily TBB Anomalies Detection Algorithm’, to extract the seismic thermal anomalies information. Then, based on the TBB background fields, this study develops the research on the Ms6.0 Luopu earthquake and Ms7.3 Yutian earthquake, to analyze the TBB temporal and spatial distribution and variation characteristics, as well as the extraction of infrared anomalies information before these two typical earthquake cases, by the methods of ’DTADA’ and visual interpretation. The results verify the close relationship between the anomalies information and the tectonic, seismic activities.All the achievements in this study supplement and improve the current methods, systems and models of background fields establishment, enhance the research depth of the application of background fields in the research field of seismic infrared remote sensing, and enrich the methods of seismic anomalies information extraction. All the achievements can increase the accuracy of seismic comprehensive prediction and provide the theoretical and methodological support for seismic infrared remote sensing. Meanwhile, they have great theoretical value and innovative significance in the development of geoscience observation technology and seismological industry in China.
