More than 1600 years ago, in the Liu Yiqing’s <world language say>,“Winnowing the grain, chaff in the front; washing the grain, gravel in the back.”, it is a record about material selection. It is showed that vibration and flow of water can cause the segregation of different particles. As one of the main characteristics of particulate matter, it is widely used in industrial production, such as material screening, tabling, food grade etc.. In recent years, it has been paid much attention to do relevant study of particulate matter in the world. In the journal<Nature>, a lot of articles on the segregation of particles in the vibration has published. On the whole, the research on the segregation of particles in the vibration not only has an important engineering application value, but also it has an important basis of scientific research value. The particulate segregation behavior which caused by different vibration mode and vibration conditions is different. For example, in the vertical vibration, Brazil nut effect、Reversing the brazil nut effect and Sandwich form of particulate matter can be obtained by changing the vibration conditions. However, the research on the segregation behavior of particulate matter is mostly confined to the vertical line 、horizontal line and horizontal circle vibration mode. In many study of the segregation behavior, the research on the segregation under the vertical pendulum vibration is very rare. At the same time, the research about the segregation effect by changing vibration conditions under the pendulum vibration are not reported. In this paper, using the EDEM software as the research tool, using the discrete element method as the research method, simulated the layered behavior of the two element material particles under the vertical pendulum vibration, and discusses the mechanism of the particulate segregation under the vertical pendulum vibration.Using the volume concentration of the particles as the standard of evaluation, we discussed the effects of vibration frequency, amplitude, size ratio and groove structure on the layer behavior under the pendulum vibration and the results were compared with the experimental results. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the study of the layer behavior under the vertical pendulum vibration, and provides a useful theoretical support for the further understanding the segregation behavior of the particles under the vertical pendulum vibration.
