Electrostatic discharge (ESD) for electronic device or equipment is a kind of near-field interference sources. The transient field of ESD could make the devices damage, and also could makes the work reliability of electronic equipment reduced. Reported at home and abroad caused by electrostatic discharge satellite is out of control, rocket launch failure, plane crashes, there are as many as dozens of malignant accidents. For a long time, people only care about the influence of electrostatic discharge current could damage the electronic equipment. Until the early 1990 s, Wilson proposed the dangers of ESD radiation field, however, the harm of ESD radiation field could not be ignored. Radiation field can also make electronic devices hardware and software failure. The experiment of electrostatic interference, IEC standard 61000-4-2 only specifies electrostatic discharge current waveform, and discharge way of horizontal and vertical coupling plate. The electromagnetic characteristics of experimental platform there are no explanation. This paper has analysis the electromagnetic field character of ESD on the test platform through the experiment and 3D electromagnetic simulation method.For Simulation method, firstly, we established the 3D simulation model of ESD simulator. Discharge current and the transient electromagnetic field of the 3D model is verified by the experimental method. In order to study the electromagnetic field characteristics of electrostatic discharge, this paper designed the near-field magnetic field and electric field probe. Receiving characteristics of probe is stable within 2 GHZ. And use the near-field magnetic field and electric field probe for field test.Then this paper set up the experimental platform in the CST software, and the ESD simulator and near-field probe model to join to the platform, the ESD immunity test platform on the electromagnetic characteristics are simulated.Finally,compared the experimental test results with the results of simulation, gives the horizontal and vertical coupled electromagnetic field distribution characteristics of ESD. ESD of horizontal coupling board, electromagnetic field are mainly distributed in the top 40 cm distance from discharge area. After more than 40 cm the electromagnetic field intensity decays sharply. For vertical coupling plate, the electromagnetic energy is mainly distributed in the vertical coupling plate area nearby, the electromagnetic field assumed attenuation trend with the distance increase.
