Due to lack of high resolution data about tibetan plateau, Investigations on Plateau low vortex (PLV) used to focus on weather analysis and dynamic analysis, we have insufficient understanding of cloud structure. Since good sensitivity and high resolution of millimeter-wave radar, it will be very helpful to plateau vortexes research. Based on the data of Cloudsat Cloud Profiling Radar (The CPR) and several instruments applied in 2014 Yangjiang and Tibetan experiments, the detection capability of Chinese first Ka-band solid-state millimeter wave radar (SMMR) was explored, including its sensitivity, liquid water content (LWC or ice water content, IWC) can be detected and difference between different modes echo. Besides, by contrasted with micro-rain radar (MRR) and CPR, accuracy of SMRR echo is tested. Then the Plateau low vortex process from Aug 13 2014 to Aug 17 was analyzed by using the SMRR,fnl and FY-2E data. The results show:Differentials between three modes echo are mostly less than 3.5dB.MRR echo and Pasivel laser optical disdrometer echo are almost same, system difference existed between MRR and SMMR echo. Affected by the first plateau low vortex process, persistent mixed cloud and precipitation lasted about three days. Cloud affected by plateau low vortex was so different with those not,40% are medium cloud with 3km to 4km cloud top, maximum reflectivity was between 25 to 30 dB, not that active as those not affected. The southwest monsoon has great importance on plateau low vortex, however thermal convection doesn’t.
