This paper summarizes the accumulation and distribution of shale gas in Zhejiang region based on the deposition and the distribution characteristics of The Lower Cambrian Hetang Formation shale, combined with shale geochemical characteristics of organic matter abundance, type and maturity, and shale physical properties of mineral composition, porosity, permeability, as well as the shale gas content characteristics. The effects of faulting, magmatism, hydrothermal mineralization and hydrogeological geochemistry on shale gas preservation are furtherly discussed in this paper. On this basis, the shale gas resource potential in Zhejiang region is preliminarily evaluated, and the favorable areas are predicted. The results show that:1. There exits two dark shales in Southeast China:Paleozoic marine shale and Mesozoic and Cenozoic continental shale. The Lower Cambrian Hetang Formation is a favorable shale layer in Zhejiang region.2. The depocenter of Hetang Formation shale is located in Anji-Zhong Zhou area of NW trend. With rich organic matter, and relatively good physical properties, the Hetang Formation shale is favorable for shale gas exploration.3. Zhejiang Province has experienced several tectonic movements, among which the Yanshan magmatic activities strongly influence the preservation conditions of shale gas in Zhejiang region.4. The favorable areas for Hetang Formation shale gas exploration are mainly distributed in Zhongzhou-Changhua uplift and Anji-Changxin depression in the northwest of Zhejiang region.
