Remote sensing is a kind of technology which has the characteristics of intuition, macroscopic, multi information source, multi resolution and multi platform, and has been widely used in geological prospecting in recent years. Using remote sensing technology to extract ore information has become a important method to the prospecting, especially with increasing improvement of the technology about the resolution of satellite images and the extraction techniques of remote sensing information and improvement of the mining model and metallogenic theory. At present, many effective methods have been studied for the extraction of remote sensing information, such as the method of principal component analysis, band ratio, spectral angle mapper, pixel unmixing, Wavelet transform and neural network and so on.The Mina Pirquitas Located in the northwest of Argentina is an important mining area of gold, copper, lead, zinc, silver, and it is one of the key area of geological mineral exploration in foreign countries.Currently known important mines in this region have Mina Pirquitas silver-tin deposit and Pan de Azucar silver-lead-zinc deposit and so on,it indicates that there are great potential for prospecting deposit in this region,so we prospect prediction by using remote sensing mine-indicating information. In this study, after the full collection of relevant geological and mineral data, we prospect prediction by mading use of Landsat-8, ASTER and ALOS satellite data as the main source of information and remote sensing technology to extract ore information, and the main research results are as follows :(1)We extracted the remote sensing mine-indicating information, including the linear fructure structure, doughnut structure, source bed and remote sensing alteration mineral abnormalities, after that, combining with the regional metallogenic features and known mineralization we summed the characteristics for remote sensing prospecting about the study area and found the Ordovician strata and Tertiary volcanic rock are the main ore source bed, especially near the quartz veins and tectonic fractur in the Ordovician strata, and near the ring structure in Tertiary strata, they are the important ore-forming favorable position;(2)We through the use PCA methods to extract remote sensing information of alteration in the scale of 1 to 100,000 from the Landsat-8, ASTER satellite images, and obtained well graded hydroxyl anomalies(OHA) and ferric contamination anomalies(FCA).(3) Through the analysis of metallogenic geological characteristics, remote sensing interpretation, extraction of mineral alteration anomalies and correlation analysis of relevant results and mineralization in the study area of Pirquitas Mina,we summed the characteristics for remote sensing prospecting about the study area combining with known mineral distribution characteristics and field verification, and based on the above conclusions,we elected 12 remote sensing prospecting favorable areas. After the comparison of the spatial overlap between the geochemical anomaly data and the favorable prospecting area, we found that elected prospecting favorable areas were very consistent with the area of silver geochemical anomalies and alteration zone, it can provide that the elected prospecting favorable areas have an important meaning for prospecting deposit and can provide reference for further ground exploration of mineral resources.
