With the rapid development of geographic information system in different areas, the requirements of GIS data increase gradually. The massive and high complexity of spatial date make the query efficiency becoming an important indicator to measure the performance of GIS system. So,to improve the query efficiency of GIS data has become a major issue to be solved.This paper is divided into five chapters. In order to realize the quick query of spatial data, multi agent technology is applied to GIS and spatial index is optimized in database. Firstly, basic information of GIS spatial data is analyzed, including the characteristics, organization, management, spatial index and spatial database technology. After improving the technology of spatial data index, a complex index based on mix of grid index and improved QR tree spatial index is established. Performance analysis of this method shows that it can realize the optimization of the spatial index. Then the technology of agent is introduced to GIS after analyzing related concepts of multi agent. According to attribute query and graphical query, two models are established respectively. The model uses a communication structure based on the blackboard and messaging combination. Finally, the model is applied to "GIS based Air Transportation and Economy Information System". The evaluation of system performance shows that this model has a significant effect on the efficiency of query optimization and the quick query of spatial data has been achieved.
