The Surface Plasmon are the waves propagating along the interface of the Metal-Dielectric, and the energy of the incident electromagnetic wave can be highly localized at the interface. The electromagnetic filed appeared exponential decay in the direction normal to the interface, that will produce an important significance on the study to reducing confine light at length scales beyond the diffraction limit. The manipulation of photons can be achieved at the sub wavelength, which demonstrates a broad prospect at the study of the large scale photonic integrated circuits, nano photonic devices. Based on the characteristic of surface plasmon and photonic crystals, a new type structure of hybrid surface plasmon photonic crystal which are composed by combing the properties of the surface plasmon and photonic crystals, is proposed in this paper, some research works are conducted on the characteristics of this type structure at the at the same time.The basic theory of the surface plasmon is introduced at the first, the Drude model of the materials were used to fitting the characteristics of the silver, the characteristics of the dispersion, exciting mode, feature length are analyzed. This provided a theoretical foundation for downing the size of the photonic devices to the diffraction limit.One dimensional and two dimensional hybrid surface plasmon nano beam cavity are constructed respectively in the paper, and the finite difference time domain method are adopted in the analysis of the characteristic of the hybrid cavity. Make emphases on the effects of the structural parameters on the quality factor and mode volume, the results shows that: a perfect quality factor is maintaining at the communication band, while a sub wavelength mode volume can be achieved at an appropriate structural parameters. The effort of effectively reducing the size of photonic devices to break through the diffraction limit has important research value, this hybrid optical cavity not only has the band gap properties of the photonic crystal, but also have the characteristic of the surface plasmon. The energy of the model filed is highly confined in the area of the cavity, which helps to enhance the interaction between light and matter.On the basis of the two dimensional hybrid surface plasmon micro cavity, a new type of hybrid surface plasmon quantum dot lasers are proposed by combing the gain characteristic of the quantum dots. The threshold characteristics of the hybrid surface palsmon quantum dot lasers are analyzed, and the relationship of the cavity length and the quantum dot polymer layer thickness with the threshold can be obtained, which has an important application value in the research to achieve a laser with lower threshold.
